Obituary of Richard Lee Flatt

Richard Lee Flatt, age 60, passed away peacefully at home in Portage, Indiana on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Richard was born in Joliet, IL on February 15, 1963, to the late Joan (nee Collins) and Dennis B. Flatt. He was a longtime Crest Hill/Joliet area resident before moving to Portage.

Richard is survived by his children, Alexander (Meghann) Ascaridis and Nora Flatt; his siblings, Michael (Nancy) Kelly, Lynn M. Schuler, Ken E. Flatt; brother-in-law, Stanley Laken; sister-in-law, Kathy Flatt; and former father-in-law, James Ascaridis. He was also blessed with many devoted nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Joan M. Flatt; father, Dennis B. Flatt; brothers, James J. Kelly and Dennis D. Flatt; and sister, Elizabeth A. "Beth" Laken.

Richard was an enthusiastic member of the archery club Deep River Bowmen, Inc. He was a dedicated student of the martial arts. He enjoyed archery, carpentry, cinema, art, and anything Marvel. Richard also loved riding his motorcycle.

He worked for many years as a Sales Manager for Carpet Showcase.

Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation for Richard Lee Flatt will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and sharing of memories at 5:00 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) in Joliet, IL.  Interment will be private.
