Helen Cavitt

Obituary of Helen Marie Cavitt

Helen Marie Cavitt, also known as Spicy or Spicy Grandma, passed away on October 25, 2023, at the age of 74 in Plainfield, IL. She was born on September 5, 1949, in Thief River Falls, MN to her parents, Arthur Sr. and Hulda Olson. Helen was a loving mother, devoted wife, proud grandmother, and hard worker. She had a warm smile and a welcoming heart that truly made her one of a kind. Helen was always honest but deeply caring, and she was known for her incredible generosity, even towards strangers. Her compassion, genuine empathy, and infectious laughter made her a fast friend to so many. She also had a reputation as one hell of an arm wrestler!

Helen is survived by her daughter, Lisa Marie Cavitt; grandson, Tyler Waznis; son, Christopher Cavitt; and granddaughters, Brooklynn Cavitt and Alexandria Marie Cavitt. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Merseth; and her adopted daughters, Wendy Sue Nelson and Melisa "Miller" Kochniarczyk. Helen also considered several additional children and grandchildren as her own.

Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clifton Lee Cavitt; her parents; her in-laws; and several siblings.

In her free time, Helen enjoyed being a passionate and vocal Hockey Grandma. She also enjoyed Spicy Bloody Marys with friends, poolside charcuterie, and making her daughters breakfast anytime they asked. Helen always tended to others making sure they were fed, and cups were full, even though she told everyone “I’m Not Really a Waitress” was her favorite nail polish.  Helen dedicated her life to caring for others, which was evident in the way she cared for her late husband and children.
