Mary Florence Evers, age 77, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, on November 16, 2023. Mary was born on August 10, 1946, the daughter of the late Robert Minter and Dorothy Irene (nee Spears) Clark. She grew up in Indianapolis, IN, and was a 1964 Arsenal Tech High School graduate. Mary continued her education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Spanish. During her studies at Indiana University, she had the opportunity to travel to Mexico City with the Spanish Department to experience hands-on learning. After earning her degree, Mary fell in love with Ray Douglas Evers. The two married on October 4, 1969, and enjoyed 54 wonderful years of marriage. Mary blessed the lives of numerous children during her many rewarding years of running an at-home daycare.
During their time together, Mary and Ray loved vacationing. They spent much of their time traveling in the car successfully visiting 48 out of the 50 states. While traveling they took time to appreciate all different types of architecture, including Mary’s favorite hobby of touring Victorian Homes. She also loved the time she spent browsing antique shops. When Mary and Ray were not traveling, Mary could be found with a good non-fiction book or working on word puzzles.
Mary is survived by her husband, Ray; two sons, Mathew (Tana) Evers, and Ryan (Stacy) Evers; grandchildren, Aden and Lyndsey Evers; her niece, Michelle Del Valle; and one brother, Jeffrey Clark.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Rebecca Clark Del Valle.
Funeral Services for Mary Florence Evers will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in her name to a charity of donor’s choice.
