Obituary of Larry W. Burden
Larry W. Burden, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, peacefully with family by his side in Kankakee, IL. Larry was born in Warrenville, IL, on May 20, 1948, the son of George and Erdine (Bradley) Burden.
Larry was a graduate of Naperville Central High School and he enlisted in the US Naval Academy on November 22, 1965. He served active duty from November 29, 1965 to October 1, 1969. He continued to serve in the Navy Reserves until June 12, 1972.
He was a lifelong maintenance worker in hospitality until his health pushed him into early retirement.
Larry met Joy in 1964. In 1969, he went into the service and they lost touch with each other. As fate would have it, they reunited thirty years later in 1999 and married on May 20th, 2000. She was the love of his life and he was the love of hers.
Larry was an avid Chicago sports fan and loved his Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. He loved watching college sports and celebrating any win the Navy had over the Army. He loved Friday night stock car races with family, bowling leagues with his bride and time spent at home with fur friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Joy Burden; both of his parents; and his brother.
He is survived by his biological children, Britta Dawn (Robert) Mueting and Erin Renae (Michael) Dean; his adopted children, Gabrielle (John) Laursen, and John (Ingra) Matkovcik; his grandchildren, Tyler and Jeremy Forth, Declan and Laryssa Markel, EmmaJo and Percy (Katie), Sadie and Josie Dean, Stephanie, Brandy, Zach, and Ellen Laursen, and Zoe Matkovcik; great-grandchildren, Raelyn Laursen, Avianna and Isaiah Schlotter.
Military funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
