Obituary of James J. McMahon, Sr.
James J. McMahon, Sr.
Age 91, of Morris and formerly Romeoville, Crest Hill, and Chicago, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL.
He married the love of his life, Yvette Paquette in Chicago in 1953. After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force at the conclusion of the Korean War, they resided in New Hampshire for a short time and then returned to Illinois where they raised their family. Mr. McMahon was a longtime employee of the Chicago Tribune.
Survived by his sons and daughter, James "Jimmy" McMahon, Karen Berard, and Steven McMahon; several grandchildren, including Katherine "Kay" (Adam) Henderson; Chad (Laura) and Mike McMahon, Lashana; Sarah, Jacob, Anna, Joseph, and Rebecca McMahon; many great-grandchildren, including Briana, Makayla and Jaxson; Cayden and Nathaniel; sister, Rochelle McMahon; sister-in-law, Irene Bolser and many nieces and nephews, many of which residing in the New Hampshire area.
Preceded in death by his wife, Yvette on August 4, 2023; his parents, Bernice (Smurawski) and John R. McMahon; grandson, Michael A. Berard, and son-in-law, Michael E. Berard;
Yvette and James were members of the YMCA. They enjoyed exercising there with friends and oftentimes would meet up with them at R-Place to visit and dine together.
A Memorial Gathering for James McMahon will be held, Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Rt. 6 (at Deerpath Drive) in Morris. A prayer service will conclude the evening, beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Larson officiating.
As it was James' wish, cremation rites have been accorded and his final earthly remains will be interred with those of his beloved wife, Yvette at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.
