Jeanne Lynn Durrer

Jeanne Lynn Durrer, passed away at the age of 76, on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.  Jeanne was born in Joliet, IL, on May 26, 1947, the daughter of Gilbert and Ruth (nee Alexander) Durrer.  She grew up in Streator, IL, was a graduate of Streater Township High School, and received both her B.A. and M.S. degrees from Northern Illinois University.  Jeanne retired from Reed Custer High School in Braidwood, IL after a long and rewarding career teaching English, History, and French.

When she wasn’t educating and mentoring her students and influencing their lives in many positive ways, Jeanne enjoyed her free time with her dear friends, attending plays and traveling.  Among her favorite travel destinations were lighthouses, of which she enjoyed collecting photographs and other memorabilia.  Whale watch cruises were another of her favorites, and she was a passionate supporter of the American Cetacean Society and the Sierra Club.

Jeanne is survived by her brother, William Durrer, of El Paso, TX; several close friends, including her caregiver and close friend Linda Delost; her feline companion, “Patches”; and numerous cousins.

She is preceded by her parents; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Alexander Cemetery in Romeoville.
