Donna Mau

Obituary of Donna Mau

Donna L. Mau

Age 87, passed peacefully from this life, on Saturday morning, December 2, 2023, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by family.

She was born July 25, 1936, to the late Elsie (Butler) and Harold Johnson in Joliet where she was raised and educated, a graduate of Joliet Township High School.

She married the love of her life, Richard A. "Dick" Mau in 1957 and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before his passing just last month.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Fiore) Brandolino, Pamela (Steven) Troutt, and Penny Senders; grandchildren, Dustin (Lindsey) Nicholson, Cole Senders, and Jeff Brandolino (fiance Lara Almeida); great-grandchildren, Dylan and Myles; her sister, Carol Cronkrite and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick Mau; and her parents.

Donna retired from clothier AL Baskin/Mark Shale and was previously employed at the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission as a secretary.

A gracious host and homemaker, she enjoyed sewing and baking as well as gardening and tending to her flowers. Keeping pace with Dick, she enjoyed snowmobiling and the occasional motorcycle ride, but was reluctant to get on the boat. Golf became a hobby after retiring to Lavonia, Georgia where Donna was apparently a quick study, perhaps under the watchful eye of her husband, who likely experienced a number of emotions while witnessing his bride and "understudy" record a hole in one not long after taking up the sport.

The Mau's returned home to be near family recently after spending a few years in Elizabethtown, IL. Dick and Donna's family feel grateful for the opportunity to be with them throughout this last chapter of their lives, culminating a beautiful, lengthy marriage. May they rest in peace.

A Memorial Visitation for Donna Mau will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 10:30 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Committal prayers will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL where Donna's final earthly remains will be interred with Dick's in their columbarium.

In lieu of flowers memorials in her name to Rosiclare United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
