Joseph Jones

Joseph Jones, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Hinsdale Hospital, at the age of 54.  Joseph was born on September 25, 1969, the youngest son of Virgil Jr. and Dora (nee Garrett) Jones.  He grew up in Pickens, Mississippi and attended Velma Jackson High School.  Joseph relocated to Joliet and continued his education at Joliet Central High School.  

Joseph enjoyed watching sports and loved to cook.  He was a true “grill master”.  There was nothing that made Joe happier than spending quality time with his loved ones on bright summer days. He enjoyed grilling his famous burgers and ribs for family and friends during these sunny days, and he would always greet anyone who stopped by with a warm and welcoming smile.

Joseph was dedicated to his faith and was baptized in Jesus’ name on April 30, 2023, at Faith United Pentecostal Church.  

Joseph is survived by his two children, Joseph Jones, Jr. and Jovon Jones; two grandchildren; and his siblings, Ernestine Madison (George) Green, Betty (Curtis) Lee, Willie L. (Mary) Jones, John Jones, Versa Cotton, Pamela (Melvin) Lyles, Vivian (Benjamin) Ferree, Ruby Johnson, Bobbie Johnson, Henry (Pam) Jones, Truvan Gibson, and Mammie Jones.  Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He is preceded by his parents, Virgil Jr. and Dora (nee Garrett) Jones.

Visitation for Joseph Jones will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Family and friends are asked to meet at Faith United Pentecostal Church, 3400 Caton Farm Rd., Joliet, IL, on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, where a funeral service will be celebrated at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet, IL.
