Obituary of Walter Hooks JR

Walter David Hooks, Jr. Walter David Hooks, Jr., age 92, of Joliet, IL died December 30, 2008 at Provena Villa Franciscan with his family by his side. Walter was born July 20, 1916 in Little Falls, NY. He was the oldest child of Walter and Margaret (Hart) Hooks. They preceded him in death as do his siblings Elizabeth (W. Morris) McKay, Robert (Faithe) Hooks and Bernard Hooks. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Agnes Scholl Hooks. He will be deeply missed by his children Ellen (Jim) McVey of St. Anne, Walter David III (Terry) of Shorewood, Stephen (Jean) of Joliet, Thomas (Lee Ann Banas) of New Lenox and Eileen Gutierrez (Ralph) of Joliet. He was the much-beloved Boppie to Colleen (Jerad) Abbott, John Patrick, Justin, Anne, Michael, Alison, Colin, Alexandra and Sarah Hooks, Samuel and Celeste Gutierrez. He was the proud great-grandfather of Jacob, Grace, Lila and Marley. He is also survived by his brother Gerald (Vivian) of Norwich, NY and his sister-in-law Lucille Hooks of Vero Beach, FL. Walter served his country in the U. S. Army from 1942 -1945 in North Africa and Europe during World War II. He was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Little Falls, New York, Knights of Columbus, Council #220. He and Agnes raised their family in Little Falls, NY, Milwaukee, WI and Joliet. Beginning in 1966, Walter worked for the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart at St. Joseph Hospital and at the corporate Motherhouse in Frankfort. He retired as Corporate Director of Personnel Services in 1984 with 18 years of service. Walter was a member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus where he served as a lector for more than 40 years. Walter was a true gentleman and a gracious man of faith and family. He will be deeply missed. Family and friends are invited to celebrate a life well-lived during a visitation from 2:00--7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart Senior Sisters Care and Support Fund or the Cathedral of St. Raymond School Endowment. FRED C.
