Obituary of Marianne Wallace
Marianne Wallace, age 73, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 at her late residence surrounded by the love of her family. Marianne was born on December 8, 1950 in Joliet to the late Roosevelt and Margaret Journigan, and remained a Joliet resident for her whole life. She worked for many years for Ameritech (formerly Illinois Bell). At the age of 18, she married Jim Wallace, and the two remained married until his passing in 2014. Marianne was the strongest, sweetest woman you would know. Her heart and her home were always open to the ones she loved. She was the best listener and confidant, always offering a listening ear without judgment. She had a way of making each family member feel like they were the favorite. When she wasn’t helping others or spending time with family, Marianne enjoyed Star Trek, and loved movies, in particular Marvel movies and “The Sound of Music”. She was also a big Hallmark fan and enjoyed QVC. She also loved learning new technology. Marianne was a true Trekkie and Techie. She had a great love for animals, especially her late dog Tippy.
Marianne is survived by her children, Janice Wallace, James Wallace, and Jeannine (Jason Hightower) Wallace; her grandchildren, Justin (DeJah) Wallace, Terran (Gustavo Castillo) Brooks, R.J. Wallace, Jarin Wallace, Janessa Wallace, Jaden Wallace, Jordyn Wallace, and Jay Hightower; her 4 great-grandchildren, Grace, Kendal, Brooklyn, and Crue; her cousin who was like another daughter, Robin Nash. Also her brothers, Roosevelt and Michael (Donna) Journigan, her sister GiGi Journigan, and countless family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Wallace; her parents; her grandparents who raised her, Phillip and Mary Mae Simpson; her sister, Rose Marie Journigan; and brother, Ronald Journigan.
All friends and relatives are invited to join together and celebrate Marianne’s life on Saturday, December 23, 2023 starting at 2:00 p.m. and until time of her services at 3:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd., Joliet.
