Obituary of Mary Hornick

Hornick, Mary "Regina" Age 96, of Joliet, called to be with Our Lord Tuesday, March 20, 2012, peacefully at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, surrounded by her family. Born in Elkins, WV and a long-time Joliet area resident. Graduate of Davis-Elkins College and former teacher at St. Benedict Grade School in Johnstown, PA, St. Rita Grade School in Chicago, and the Cathedral of St. Raymond Grade School in Joliet from which she retired in 1985. Regina loved life, helping others, her many friends (and students) from St. Rays, the Village of Minooka, The Loyalton, and the Francisco and Schuler families. Her greatest pride-and-joys were her grandsons and great-grandsons. Preceded in death by her loving husband Bert Hornick (1971), her parents Marvin and Margaret Vest, brothers Ellis (Bee) and Lewis (Louise) Vest; brother-in-law Jack (Pat) Hornick;sister-in-law Frances (Brian) McDonald, and her beloved son-in-law Gene Francisco. Survived by her loving daughter Peg Francisco, grandson Paul Francisco, and grandson Todd (Amanda) Francisco and their sons-Regina's great-grandsons Colton and Jaxon Francisco; nieces Sally Vest and Carolyn Rowe; nephews Chuck Vest and Mark Hornick and their families. Regina's family would like to sincerely thank the medical professionals who have cared for her throughout the years, and the wonderful nurses, CNA's and doctors at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home for their gentle and loving care during her final days. Funeral services and visitation for Regina Hornick will take place on Monday, March 26, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave., Joliet. Visitation will follow Monday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Dames Funeral Home in Joliet, after which her journey to Pennsylvania will begin for a graveside service at St. Joseph Cemetery in Geistown.
