Obituary of Nancy Houbolt

Houbolt, Nancy Belle (nee Messenger) "Mumzie" Age 85. Peacefully, Monday, January 23, 2012 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center with her family by her side, following complications arising from surgery. Born in Des Moines, IA, she was a lifelong Joliet area resident. A graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1943. As a young lady, Nancy was employed at Al Baskin for many years. She was a member and past President of the Advisory Board of Silver Cross Hospital. She also was an active volunteer at the Encore Shop at Silver Cross Hospital. Because of her love for animals, she was a long time contributor to the Will County Humane Society, as well as many other animal and wildlife organizations. She was also an active supporter of the American Cancer Society. Her greatest love in life was spending time with her family, friends and pets. Preceded in death by her beloved son, Stuart John Houbolt (1995); and her parents, Jack and Julia Messenger. Survived by her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, Neal Houbolt of Joliet; two sons, Van Houbolt of Crest Hill and Neal (Kathy) Houbolt, Jr. of Plainfield; four daughters, Nancy (Edward) Vanderhoof of Joliet, Susan (John) Gullicksen of Joliet, Joy (Dave) Tinsman of New Lenox and Mary (Jeff) Lohmar of Sandwich, IL; nine grandchildren, Russell Vanderhoof, Kristi (Thomas) Szum, Rachel and Tanner Gullicksen, Lauren and Megan Houbolt, Kyle and Logan Lohmar, and John David Houbolt; three great-grandchildren, Brianna and Colby Vanderhoof; and Ema Lynn Szum; and her beloved puppy, Halle and her kitty, Harley. Funeral Services for Nancy Belle Houbolt will be Friday, January 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Craig Herr officiating. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the Will County Humane Society. Visitation Thursday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at: FRED C.
