Some of my earliest memories of my aunt were when I was 4 years old. When she visited around the holidays, I was fascinated with her black and white habit and she was so joyful and kind. She would sit me on her lap and tell me stories. If she visited in the summer, she would pull me in a wagon around the neighborhood and push me on the swings. She was so gentle and sweet and I always enjoyed spending time with her.
Her service to the church took her all over the country and as an adult, I cherished the few times she was able to visit. She was always so well-spoken and very intelligent. Even knowing this, I was astonished at all her accomplishments listed in the obituary.
I was blessed to be able to bring my mother Helen Hanslik (her sister) to Sister’s Jubilee celebration in Joliet. I was so proud and humbled by all the religious who devoted their lives in service to God. Sister introduced us to all the incredible women she lived with and my mother and her were able to see each other before dementia took my mother’s memories.
I know Sister is at peace and in God’s loving embrace.
