Gerald Plitt

Obituary of Gerald Anthony Plitt

Gerald Anthony Plitt, age 61, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the Humboldt Park Health Center in Chicago. Jerry was born on September 19, 1962 to William Plitt and the late Doris Vercellotti.  He was a graduate of Providence Catholic High School, class of 1980, and then he achieved his B.A. from Bradley University, class of 1984. He became a Certified Public Accountant, and worked for many years for the Packaging House, serving as their C.F.O.

He was always generous to his friends and was known as “Jerry Christmas” when he gave out his Christmas gifts.  His attention to detail made him an excellent accountant.  He loved throwing extravagant parties that included waiters and all the extras. He had a great sense of humor, putting 70 pink flamingos on his father’s lawn for his 70th birthday. He enjoyed time spent traveling, and he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Jerry is survived by his father, who loved him unconditionally, William L. (longtime partner Caryl Thomas) Plitt; friend and former partner, Rubens Cardoso; his aunt, Janice Mackay; and numerous cousins, good friends, and business colleagues.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Doris (nee Vercellotti) Plitt; and his brother, Stephen Plitt.

As it was his final wish, cremation rites have been accorded. All friends and relatives are invited to a Memorial Visitation on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 9-11 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd., Joliet. Procession to St. Anthony Catholic Church, Joliet for Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12 p.m.  Jerry will then be laid to rest next to his mother and brother at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Howard Brown Health, www.donate.howardbrown.org, would be appreciated.
