Hray, John Joseph
Age 91. Passed away peacefully, Friday, May 4, 2012 at Hines Veterans Administration Extended Care Center. Born in Joliet, he was a lifelong Joliet area resident. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, serving with 103rd Infantry Division, Company L. Cactus Division. John also was POW in Germany until he escaped his captors. Retired from Blockson Chemical/Olin in Joliet after over 35 years of service. A life member of Cantigny Post #367 VFW and the American Legion Post #1080.
Preceded in death by his wife, Marie A. (nee Szymendero) Hray; one daughter, Carol (James) Benton; his parents, Nicholas and Anna (nee Nadjulski) Hray; one brother, Peter Hray; his four sisters, Katherine (Louis) Sukle, Rose (Nick) Chuk, Mary (James) Karl and Ann (George) Malinovich.
Survived by his three sons, Dennis (Joy Schank) Hray, Robert (Alice) Hray, and Richard Hray; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; our adopted family the Wadhwani's; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his best friend and faithful canine companion Chloe.
Funeral Services for John Joseph Hray will be Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Jude Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery where full Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army.
