Obituary of John Ohlsen Minier, III
John Ohlsen Minier, III, age 30, of Joliet, passed away suddenly Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, with his family lovingly by his side.
Born October 5, 1993, in Barrington, IL, he was a graduate of St. Viator High School, Arlington Heights, and attended the College of St. Francis, Joliet.
A beloved and loving grandson, son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin, he will never be forgotten by his family, and no one will ever take his place in their hearts.
John was an accomplished equestrian whose showmanship skills led to his winning multiple World Championship titles in numerous equestrian organizations with his American Paint Horse, McLaren, and with other horses owned by his family. His love of horses began with his beloved paint horse Bianca, and his devotion to and bond with this amazing horse was legendary. John was personally interviewed by the international publication Paint Horse Journal regarding his impressive achievements. John took special pride in the fact that showing horses was a family hobby.
John also had an in-depth knowledge of antiques and historic architecture, so he was able to evaluate and select ideal pieces for any setting. His love of and expertise with antiques shaped his dream of someday having his own antique restoration business.
Surviving are his mother, Mary Jane Minier; his father, John Minier, Jr.; one sister, Erica Minier; one adored niece, Scarlett Rose Minier; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, including beloved cousin, Mikayla Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald L. and Teresa Johnson; John Minier Sr., Ramona Minier; and uncle, Bruce Minier.
A Mass of Christian Burial for John was celebrated Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, Joliet. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in his name to the American Paint Horse Foundation, in care of Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60431.
