Michael John Fleming
Mike Fleming age 72 of Morris passed away unexpectedly Tuesday night, March 26th, 2024 at his residence. Born October 9, 1951 in Joliet, IL. he was the son of John and Mary (nee Keigher) Fleming.
Beloved husband of Galynn Vaksdal and father of Peter M. (Sara) Fleming of Minooka and Megan M. (Ryan Sjostrom) Fleming of Chicago; proud Grandfather of Keighera and Everett Fleming, Seamus, MaryKatherine, Fiona and Ronan Sjostrom; brother to Thomas (Lillie) Fleming, Patrick Fleming and Maureen (Barry) Fox; brother-n-law to Robert McMillin. In addition he was the proud Step-Father and Grandfather to the Galynn Vaksdal Family which includes Kathleen (Travis) Hannon, Valerie (Michael) Arwood, Ashley (David) Greisen and Courtney (Dan) Lee and grandchildren Audrey, Lizzie & Grant Hannon; Natale, Allison & Caleb Arwood; Alexandra, Samantha & Josephine Greisen and Hayden Lee. Several nieces, nephews and many dear friends as well as his faithful dog Stanley mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother & sister Kathleen McMillin.
Mike grew up on a farm in Aux Sable Township, Grundy County just west of Minooka. After high school he went on to help start up the Mobil Oil Refinery in Joliet where he made life long friends to this day. Mike then went on to become a Village of Minooka Trustee & Mayor before entering into commercial real estate where he and his son Pete worked side by side for the past two decades at Marquette Properties. He never missed a sports match of his children and grandchildren and could always be seen along the fence striking up a conversation with whomever was nearby. He made his mark on the world for his kindness, positive spirit and willingness to help anyone in need. He will forever be missed by so many friends and family.
A memorial visitation for Mike will be held Tuesday April 2, 2024 from 3-7 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 1201 W. Rt. 6 (at Deerpath Drive) in Morris.
All friends and relatives are invited to gather at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Minooka Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. when his Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John Honiotes.
As it was Mike's wish cremation rites have been accorded and his final earthly remains will be interred at St. Mary's Cemetery privately.
