Patricia Dykhuizen

Obituary of Patricia Anne Dykhuizen

Age 70, of Joliet, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice on Friday, March 29, 2024.

Patricia was born January 2, 1954, to the late Loretta (LoCelso) and Joseph Romanoski in Chicago where she was raised and educated.  She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from DePaul.

Patricia is the beloved mother of Adam (Geneva) Dykhuizen, Ellen (Christopher) Ramirez, Claire (Aaron) Somerville, Peter Dykhuizen, Henry Dykhuizen and JoAnna Dykhuizen; devoted grandmother of Benjamin, Veronica, Cecilia and Aspen Ramirez; fond sister of Joseph (Michelle) Romanoski, Michael (Dolly) Romanoski, Marie (Late Raymond) Piet and sisters-in-law, Rita Johnson and Joan Kindle (Wilson). Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband of 43 years, Glen, Patricia is also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Tahara, and brothers, George Romanoski, and John Romanoski in infancy.

A compassionate and devoted nurse, Patricia loved her career in healthcare, especially her many years in labor and delivery.  From obstetrics and midwifery to dialysis and school nursing, her vast array of knowledge and unwavering kindness touched the hearts of all who came to know her.

Patricia also had a tremendous vocabulary and an intense love of literature, spending a lot of her free time collecting and selling books. She was often found working on crosswords, sudoku puzzles, and strategizing her next move in Scrabble. Her other interests included the theatre and volunteering for the costume departments and stage crew.

She will be deeply missed, however, her strength, courage, and straightforward style to anything presented to her will enable and inspire her family to live their lives with the same approach.
