Obituary of Betty Lou Semplinski
Betty Lou, age 95, late of Crest Hill, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, April 1, 2024. She has now joined her adoring husband and heavenly family.
She was born on January 5, 1929 in Chicago to Roy F. and Edna Anna (nee Biester) Coble. Betty Lou worked as a floral designer for numerous shops in Joliet and the surrounding areas. She was politically active, having served as an Alderwoman for the City of Crest Hill for 14 years. Additionally, she was part of the deaf community having been raised in a deaf household. She interpreted for the Steelworkers and the Caterpillar Senior Association.
Betty Lou looked forward to deaf bingo at the Croatian Club every month and spending time with her dear friend, Dolores Glenn. She enjoyed gardening and found great pleasure in creating with her oils and canvas.
Betty Lou is survived by her sons, Raymond (Jan) and Thomas (Karen); her daughter, Joyce (Scott) Schaeffer; her grandchildren, Wendi (Jeremy) Sparts, Niki (Kevin) Bullock, Toni Hutchinson, Candice (Kevin) Roberts, Lori (Ron) Smiles, Eric (Gina) Semplinski, Brian (Emily) Semplinski, Lisa (Marco) Semplinski, Sarah (Eric) Latsch, Amanda (Christopher) Rosenthal, Zachary (Aly) Schaeffer, Graham (Melissa) Schaeffer; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Nicholas, Aidan, Evie, Zavier, Carli, Allie, Mary, Jovi, Jayci, Kayli, Bella, Tyler, Everitt, Maxwell, Emily, Madelyn, Eloise, Annabelle, Lily, Josephine, Rosalie, Finnigan, Genevieve, Cameron, Collin and Cara; two great-great-grandchildren, Cal and Rylee.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony “Tony” Semplinski; her parents; stepmother, Freida; her sister, Shirley; and great-grandson James.
Funeral services for Betty Lou Semplinski will be Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 9 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd., Joliet to St. Anne Catholic Church in Crest Hill for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the Crest Hill Lions Club for hearing and vision impaired would be appreciated.
