Obituary of Elizabeth Marie Vacca

Elizabeth Marie Vacca, age 65, of Crest Hill passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, April 8, 2024. Elizabeth was born on August 30, 1958, the daughter of George and Betty (nee Hocutt) Schuller. Born and raised in Joliet, Elizabeth was a graduate of Joliet Central High School; she attended Joliet Junior College and received her nursing degree from Triton College.  Elizabeth started her nursing career at Morris Hospital and retired from Children’s Memorial Hospital after more than 35 dedicated years of caring for others.

During the years that her children attended Holy Family Parish School in Shorewood, Elizabeth was active in fundraising, along with several other activities with the school.  In her free time, she enjoyed tending to the flowers in her garden, bird watching, and taking care of her dogs.  When the kids were younger, memories were made during family ski trips out west in the mountains.  Elizabeth loved her family more than anything and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, John (Katie) Vacca and Lauren (Mark Slobodnik, Jr.)Vacca; two grandchildren, Max and Eve Vacca; her mother, Betty Dulney; and her siblings, Bryan Schuller, Vince (Lynn) Schuller, and Valerie (Robert) Powell.  Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Henry Vacca and her father, George Schuller.

Visitation for Elizabeth Marie Vacca will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m.  As it was Elizabeth’s wish, cremation rites will be accorded following services. 

Inurnment will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Evergreen Cemetery in Morris.
