Obituary of Debra A. Flowers
Age 61, of Waynesboro, TN and formerly Joliet, IL, passed from this life Friday, June 14, 2024.
Debbie was born in Joliet, on September 2, 1962, the daughter of Dorothy (Holmquist) Flowers and Harry Lee Flowers, Jr. She attended Joliet Grade Schools and Joliet East High School.
She spent several years as an advocate and mentor for Special Ed students at Lynne Thigpen Elementary School in Joliet, which was such an appropriate calling for Debbie. She never thought of her occupation as a job, rather a labor of love.
For the last 15 years, Debbie resided in the Waynesboro area where she enjoyed working at Emerald’s Restaurant in various capacities. She was always up for a new adventure and never turned down a task or challenge. She also earned a certificate in Phlebotomy and did medical coding while in Tennessee.
Debbie is the beloved mother of Corinne (Jeff) Tordai, Karli (Chandler) Francis and Travis Paterson; proud and devoted Nana of Ella Tordai; Carter and Luke Francis; dear sister of Tammy (Todd) Vollmer, Michelle (Stephen) Sternisha, Harry “Lee” Flowers, III, Stephanie Flowers and Antonette Flowers. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to her parents, Debbie is also preceded in death by her brothers, William “Jamie” McCallister, Dennis McCallister and sister, Tina Houle-Schmittinger.
To say Debbie enjoyed the holidays was an understatement. She loved get-togethers, holidays and birthdays were big events she would make so special. She also loved the outdoors and motorcycle riding; however nothing made her more thrilled and happy than spending time with her grandchildren.
A memorial Visitation for Debbie will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet.
Her final earthly remains will be interred at a later date at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
