Obituary of Howard Marshall Huntington, Jr.
Howard Marshall Huntington, Jr.
Howard Marshall Huntington Jr., passed away at the age of 77, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at his home in Joliet, IL. Howard was born on October 12, 1946, the son of the late Howard Marshall and Louise J. (nee Poffenberger) Huntington. Born and raised in Chicago, Howard was a graduate of CVS High School and attended Illinois State University. He retired in 2008 from the Veterans Administration after more than 10 years as a dedicated Safety Inspector.
Howard enjoyed model trains and collecting coins, but his biggest passion in life was football. For 30 years he was the Head Coach for the Force of Illinois, a minor league team. He was proudly inducted into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame.
Howard was one of the kindest people anyone has ever known. He was a gentle soul, funny, and kindhearted. His greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren. Most of all, he just loved spending time with his wife, Janet.
Howard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Janet E. (nee Shunko) Huntington; children, twins Alex (Angela) Huntington and Jennie (Steve) Regal, and Andrew (Julie) Huntington; grandchildren, Alana Lieske, Emma Regal, Grace Regal, Molly Huntington, Jared Regal, Marty Huntington, Amy Huntington, and Andrew Huntington, Jr.; and one sister, Marcia (the late Robert) Heersema. He is also survived by numerous sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
