LaShanda Brassel

Obituary of LaShanda P. Brassel

LaShanda P. Brassel

LaShanda P. Brassel, passed away at the age of 48, on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora, IL.  LaShanda was born in Chicago, IL, on April 4, 1976.  She attended Walter H. Dyett Middle School and was a graduate of Downers Grove North High School.  She was also a graduate of Everest College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Coding.

Lashanda was a faithful and devoted employee of the fox valley post office for over 11 years and was loved and cherished by many in the facility. Every day that she walked in the building she always carried a vibrant light of sunshine in her spirit that lit up every person’s heart. As dutiful and responsible as she was on the job she was every bit of loving and sweet to everyone she came into contact with.

If you knew Lashanda then you knew that she loved to read and she definitely loved her some good ole Harry Potter! She was magnetically drawn to books and literature as a whole and her intellect certainly reflected that. Not only did she love to read and write, she also loved to play video games ever since she was a kid. She never abandoned her inner-child.  She was as creative, expressive, and full of life as they come! You could certainly say she was one of the “Cool” moms, so to speak.

In the words of her own children she was the best mom anyone could ever ask for. On top of ensuring that her family had all of their needs met she also made sure that her children were as happy as could be and always encouraged them to be exactly who they are no matter what. Let’s not also forget her beautiful fur baby “Mari-Ari” the last gift given to her by her late fiancé Asante King. She provided her with tremendous care and love and naturally Mari reciprocated that same love back to Lashanda, unconditionally, helping her get through the passing of Asante.

Lashanda was truly a beautiful person inside and out, someone who lived in love and wore her heart on her sleeve. “Super Woman” perfectly describes Lashanda Brassel.  Her legacy and spirit lives on strong within those whom she has touched with her unconditional love and kindness. She will forever be remembered and cherished in the hearts of all of her loved ones.

LaShanda is survived by her children, Taylor, Elijah, and Brandon Brassel; her father, Edward Walker, Jr.; siblings, Shinell Brassel and Akeela Wooten; niece, Syriah Sherrod; nephew DeShawn Brassel; and her faithful canine companion, “Mari”.

She is preceded by her mother, Mary A. Brassel; and fiancé Asante King.
