Obituary of Edwin Schwalm
Edwin Jerome Schwalm, age 79, of Mazon, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at home with his loving family and devoted caregiver Yvonne by his side. He was born on November 24, 1944, in Chicago, the son of the late Albert and Ida (nee Busse) Schwalm. He graduated from Bloom High School of Chicago Heights, IL class of 1963. Edwin served in the United States Army in Fort Benning, GA. He married Catherine "Kitty' Cunnea on July 15, 1967, in Lansing, IL, and the two had just recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Edwin was a truck driver most of his life. He enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycles, NASCAR, and T.V. Edwin was head of the church youth group, and coached baseball. He enjoyed the times spent with his family at their cottage in Lake Shafer, IN. Everyone loved his laugh, they would stop their conversations and say "There's Eddie!". Most of all he loved spending time with family, cooking, making fudge, and going out to eat.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Catherine "Kitty" (nee Cunnea) Schwalm; his children, Kim (Perry) Suggs and Mark Schwalm; his grandchildren, Kyle and Bridget Schwalm, and Anthony (Chantell) Suggs; his great grandchildren, Bella, Kennedy, and Khamila; his sisters, Caron Fulton and Hope (Brad) O'Keefe; sisters-in-law, Anita Schwalm, Marge Schwalm, Mary Davis, Janet (Jim) Sharpe, and Dorothy Cunnea; brothers-in-law Edward (Sue) Cunnea and Edwin (Marilyn) Cunnea; numerous nieces and nephews; his devoted caretaker Yvonne; and his fur baby, Rosie.
He is preceded by his parents, Albert and Ida Schwalm; brothers Conrad, Robert (Linda), and Paul Schwalm; and brothers-in-law William Cunnea and Les Fulton.
Funeral services for Edwin Jerome Schwalm will be Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 1650 W. Route 6, Morris with Memorial visitation from 9:30 a.m. until services at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Edwin's name can be made to the Mazon Fire Department, MVK Ambulance, or Lightways Hospice.
