Obituary of Joan Francis Bourg
Joan Francis (Hurley) Bourg
Joan Francis Bourg, age 91, a lifetime resident of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Villa Franciscan Place in Joliet.
Joan was born on December 27, 1932, to the late Robert and Genevieve (Sitar) Hurley, in Joliet where she was raised and educated. She was a graduate of St. Johns Grade School and St. Francis Academy in Joliet. While in the 5th grade at St. Johns, she had her first kiss under her school desk with the future love of her life, her husband, John. For the past 65 years she was a parishioner of Queen of Apostle Catholic Church. Joan enjoyed her chocolate milk shakes, reading books, watching the major horse races, mostly selecting a Gray horse to win. She was always looking forward to and enjoyed her lunch and movie dates with her lifetime best friends. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family and the special times with her two granddaughters.
Joan retired from the Will County Recorder of Deeds Office after many dedicated years of service and proudly served as the First Lady of Joliet for eight years from 1979 to 1987, beside her late husband, Mayor John P. Bourg, Jr. She also worked at the Joliet Arsenal and family businesses.
Joan is survived by her sons, Karl (Karen) Bourg and Bruce Bourg; her grandchildren, Katie (Vinnie) Hughes and Kristine Bourg; her great-grandchild, Enzo Hughes; and sister-in-law, Joan Keck.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John P. Bourg, Jr. (1993); infant son, Joseph K. Bourg (1960); her parents; her sister, Jacqueline Freitag; and daughter-in-law, Debby (McFadden) Bourg (2023).
Visitation for Joan Bourg will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 9 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, where she will rest in peace next to her husband and son.
