Obituary of Roberta A. Olson
Roberta A. Olson, age 90, of Morris, and formerly of Galesburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at home, with her loving family by her side.
She was born June 10, 1934 in Galesburg, IL, to William J. and Lillian R (Jones) Rogers, and was a graduate of Galesburg High School and later attended Brown’s Business College. She worked as a merchandiser for Archer Daniels Midland, Galesburg, for 24 years, retiring in 1992.
Lovingly known as Toot-Toot by her adoring grandchildren, she will be dearly missed at all the family get-togethers which she enjoyed so much. She was also the family confidant and a source of comfort to everyone who sought her guidance and support.
Roberta never knew a stranger and will be remembered for her ability to make friends easily everywhere she went, for being a very good cook, and especially her pork chops and milk gravy.
She loved following sports, especially college basketball and football, and her favorite teams were University of Illinois basketball, Penn State University football, and the Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed reading and the time she spent serving as a Reading Buddy at Cook Grade School, Galesburg.
Surviving are her loving daughter, Tracey Schurtz of Morris; her grandchildren, Scott (Leslie) Gibbs, Kate (Wes Shannon) Carey, and Dan Gibbs; her great-grandchildren, Logan and Gavin Carey, Mya, Tessa, and Kian Shannon, and Colton, Stella, and Levi Gibbs; one sister, Mary Lou Youngren; a son-in-law, Randy (Patti) White; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Michael R. Schurtz and Peter R. “Quie” Olson; her daughter, Robyn White; and her parents; five brothers, William, Edwin, Terrance, Wendel and Michael; and one sister, Lawana Leahy.
