Obituary of Rita M. Marquardt
Age 95, of Joliet, Illinois, passed peacefully, on Friday morning, September 13, 2024 at the Lightways Hospice Home. Born in Braidwood, IL on April 12, 1929, she was a long-time Joliet area resident.
On July 18, 1953, she married Robert F. Marquardt. They shared 60 years of marriage until his passing in late 2013.
Rita is the beloved mother of Larry (Sally) Marquardt, Robert Jr. (Priscilla) Marquardt and Lavon (Tom) Picco; devoted grandmother of Jason (Jayme) Marquardt, Jeremy (Jeana) Marquardt; Kristina (Steve) Brown, Jenny (Eddie) Eddy and Katie (Wess) Davidson; Robert III (Jess) and Annah Rose Marquardt; cherished great-grandmother of Nathan, Nicholas, Kyla Rose, Bailey, Jason Jr., Brody and Jayleigh, Millie, Leila, Beau and Brystol; proud great-great grandmother of Rae-Lynn and Ryker. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Beverly Sinkular and Jane Sinkular as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband, Robert, she is also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Katherine (nee Menietti) Sinkular; great-granddaughter Keira Grace; five brothers, Francis, James, Donald, Raymond and Edwin Sinkular; three sisters, Eleanor McQuerry, Lorraine Rink and Katherine Hnetkovsky.
Rita, a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of VFW Cantigny Post #367, the American Legion Post #1080 and Chapter 84 Ladies of the Moose, also enjoyed her affiliation with the Will County Destroyer Escort Association and the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum and Memorial Foundation. Rita was a woman of faith and a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Visitation for Rita M. Marquardt will be Monday, September 16, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd) Joliet. Funeral services Tuesday September 17, 2024 12 Noon at the funeral home with Rev. David Totsky officiating. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
