Obituary of Virginia K. Bailey
Virginia K. (Ward) Bailey, age 81, of Shorewood, passed away suddenly on September 17, 2024 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born on December 26, 1942 in Joliet to the late Bernard and Lorraine (Sisson) Ward. Mary Edna Ward was her dearest aunt and mentor in oil-on-canvas. She is survived by her beloved brother Gary Ward. Ginny was a graduate of Lockport Township High School, Class of 1961, and while in school, she enjoyed being part of the school band. She went on to achieve her associate’s degree from Joliet Junior College. Ginny worked for over 20 years as the Executive Secretary to the Division Director for Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont. She was an active member of LAFS also.
On August 17, 1963, Virginia married Terry Bailey, and the two most recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Together, they had two sons, Scott (Jodi) Bailey and Todd (Jill) Bailey, grandchildren: Teri (Derek) Swinhart, Troy (Halle) Bailey, Chloe Bailey, Sydney Bailey, Maddy Bailey and great-grandchildren: Eli Kopins and Cameron Bailey. Ginny took great pride in being an excellent mother to her children, and eventually a grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In the free time she did have, she enjoyed fishing with her sons, and grandchildren and was 1 of the 3 Amigos – alongside her husband and "sister"-in-law Kay McAdow. She also was active in genealogy research with her brother Gary. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Virginia was the great-great-granddaughter of Lockport, IL Pioneer Holder Sisson.
May she get to be with Shadow & Domino once more.
