Marianne Lewis

Obituary of Marianne Lewis

Marianne Lewis, Age 85, formerly from Anchorage, Alaska, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Plainfield, on Sunday, November 3, 2024, with her family by her side.

She was born November 16, 1938, to the late Arthur and Ida Wiesner in Germany, where she was raised and educated. Escaping East Germany at the age of 14, Marianne resided in Wiesbaden, Germany.  While living in Wiesbaden she met the love of her life, William R. Lewis, during his deployment serving with the US Air Force.

As a military spouse, Marianne immigrated to the United States with her husband. In 1967, they were transferred to Elmendorf Air Force Base located outside of Anchorage, Alaska, where they settled and raised their family. During her time in Anchorage, Marianne made many friends and worked for several years at Providence Hospital. She would go on to retire from Providence as a Director of Environmental Services in 2003.

Marianne was well known for her infectious laugh, willingness to try new things, and always up for either a well-made Tom Collins or a well-brewed cup of coffee. She passed on her love of reading, adventurous spirit, and wonder of the world to her children and grandchildren. Marianne took immense pride in her work ethic and a good education, values she instilled in her family. Marianne would often be found cheering on her family, participating in their games and adventures, even if that meant she had to run and hike in her 3” stiletto heels.

Surviving are her daughters, Regina Burrell and Ramona (the late Ned "Dave") Maraman; grandchildren, Caitlyn (Corey) Carter, Nicholas Burrell, Ned (Laci) Maraman, and Christy Maraman; as well as her five great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, William Lewis; her parents; and siblings, Herbert, Gerda, Helga Manns, Wilhelm, and Gerhardt Wiesner.

Marianne will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
