Cora Marie “Corky” Martie,
(nee Floyd)
Cora Marie Martie, age 95, passed away on November 13, 2024, in Mesa, Arizona. Cora was born in Joliet, IL, on October 6, 1929, the daughter of the late Virgil and Grace Floyd.
Cora will always be remembered for her restaurant in New Lenox, Illinois at the corner of Rt. 30 and Cedar Road: Corky’s Café. After selling the restaurant she went to work with Ed’s sister downtown Chicago at Pure Milk Association and later in her life in the bakery department at Dominick’s in Shorewood off Rt. 59 and Jefferson Street.
Cora is survived by her husband Edwin “Ed” of 56 years; one daughter, Jeanne (Carl) Sievert; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her older sister, Dorothy Blessing, who just celebrated her 101st birthday in Plainfield, Illinois!
Visitation for Cora Marie Martie will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL, from 11:00 a.m. until prayers at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois.
