Obituary of Imelda Castillo
Imelda Castillo
Imelda Castillo, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 16, 1952, the daughter of the late Anacleto and Eufrocina (nee Martinez) Silva. Born and raised in Mexico, Imelda relocated to Joliet in her 20s, where she met the love of her life, Adan Castillo.
For many years, she served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and served in the Prayer Group at Mount Carmel Church, where her faith, kindness, and dedication touched the lives of all who knew her.
Imelda was a woman of boundless warmth and compassion. Her loving presence was like a protective force field, offering us all love that continues to surround us with strength and comfort. Known for her innate ability to listen and uplift others, she had a gift for seeing the best in people, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Her passion for cooking brought the family together around the table, where she shared not just meals, but a sense of love, care, and belonging. Imelda’s joy was in the simple yet profound act of nurturing those she loved, whether through food, conversation, or just being there when needed.
An avid lover of flowers, Imelda tended her garden with the same patience, care, and devotion she gave to her family. She also found great joy in singing and praying, with a voice and love for God that had a way of lifting spirits and bringing people together in harmony.
Imelda’s legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering faith, and a deep commitment to the people she cherished. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten, her influence continuing to inspire and guide those who were blessed to know her.
Imelda is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Adan Castillo; her children, Maria Guadalupe (Leopoldo) Diaz, Patricia (Luis) Mancera, Elizabeth (Ruperto) Herrera, Lucy (Ivan) Ortiz, Adan (Cindy) Castillo, Jr., Mayra (Jesse) Franchini, Gustavo (Terran) Castillo, and Alejandro Castillo; 17 grandchildren, Miguel, Adrian, Alexander, and Jaslene Diaz, Sebastian, Brianna, and Acelyn Mancera, Alec, Benjamin, and Caden Herrera, Citlali and Izel Ortiz, Adancito Castillo, Jesse Jr. and Xander Franchini, and Grace and Crue Castillo; and her siblings, Bertha (Mauro) Martinez, Rosa Silva, Efren (Modesta) Silva, and Goya (the late Arturo) Cruz.
