Obituary of Alan R. Wolfer
Age 65, of Plainfield, IL and formerly Chicago, departed this life Monday, November 25, 2024. He was born October 25, 1959, to the late Margaret and Rudolph Wolfer in Chicago Ridge, where he was raised and educated, a graduate of Richards High School.
He is the beloved husband of 33 years to Bonnie (Garbo) Wolfer; loving father of Alan J. Wolfer, Jason (Diana) Wolfer, Michael (Christina) Wolfer, and Valerie Wolfer; devoted “Papa” of Cameron and Julian, Jayden and Isabella, Brayden, and Gabriella and Kane; proud great “Papa” of Oaklie; dear brother of Rudy Wolfer. His cousin, nieces, nephews, and canine companion Nala also survive.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carol Bulmann.
Alan, an Operations Manager for American Fire Training Systems, knew only one speed. His work ethic, unparalleled; the finished product, flawless. Possessing a methodical mind, troubleshooting came naturally. He could fix anything. He thoroughly enjoyed custom painting cars and cycles, some of which took top honors at competitions and shows, which gave him great satisfaction. However, his best attribute was his huge heart and willingness to help anyone and everyone.
A few other interests include fishing, camping, and boating.
Visitation for Alan will be Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd) Joliet. A service of remembrance will conclude the evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. As it was Alan’s request, cremation rites will be accorded after his services.
