Obituary of Sheryl A. Lawman
Sheryl Lawman
Age 84, passed from this life, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Lightways Hospice Home of Joliet. Sheryl was born January 13, 1940, to the late “Bennie” and Ed Kleemeier in Rockwell City, Iowa. She had resided in Iowa until she and her late husband, Kurt moved to the Joliet, Illinois area in the late 1970s.
Sheryl is the beloved mother of Sloane (Bill) Dempsay and Chad (Ellie) Lawman; loving and devoted grandmother of Tyler (Johnna), Tanner (Gwyn), Conner (Abby), and Haley Dempsay; Jace and Audrey Lawman. Other survivors include her siblings, Tim (Rita) Kleemeier, Rex (Charlotte) Kleemeier, Lynda (late Daryl) Bradley, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband, Kurt Lawman, she is also preceded in death by her parents.
While in Iowa, Sheryl was a beautician who owned her own shop. After relocating to New Lenox, IL, Sheryl and Kurt became avid horsemen, owning and breeding Arabian horses at their farm, Mistee Meadow Arabians in New Lenox. They were active members of the Arabian horse community including the Abu Arabian Horse Club, and competed in numerous horse shows throughout the years. Sheryl also dedicated her time to supporting and cheering on her grandkids at every sporting event and awards ceremony. She loved to spoil the grandkids every chance she got.
Other interests of Sheryl’s, included tending to her farm, planting flowers, and raising all kinds of animals including dogs, cats, and a goat. She was often sewing and decorating for her friends and spent a lot of time in the kitchen baking and cooking for everyone.
Committal Services and Inurnment for Sheryl will take place Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. All those wishing to attend are asked to arrive at the cemetery at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday. Following the cemetery service, there will be a Celebration of Life gathering from 2:30-5:00 p.m. at La Dolce Vita, 16108 S Route 59, Plainfield, IL.
