Angella Thiakos (nee Georgis)
Angella S. Thiakos, passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 89, on Friday, December 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was met at the gates of Heaven by her husband, Spyridon, and her son Peter. Angella was born March 2, 1935, in Kalamata, Greece, the daughter of the late Panagiotis and Sophia (nee Demopoulos). v
Angella retired from Basinger Pharmacy in Joliet after 50 years of dedicated service. She became very well known with the delivery drivers, all the workers, and customers for her holiday pastries. They all looked forward to the holiday season because of her baking. Angella had a passion for cooking and baking Greek food for her family and friends. Family was everything to Angella, and she was a very devoted wife and mother.
A very faithful life member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Angella was active in the Daughters of Penelope, and the Philoptochos Society. She had a great love for her church and donated icons in memory of her husband and son.
Angella is the beloved mother of Tom (Deb) Thiakos, Sophia (Nikolaos) Gkotsis and Billy Thiakos; proud grandmother, affectionately known as Yia Yia to Dennis Gkotsis and Tyler Hycner; brother John (Voula) Georgis; beloved nephews, John Revezoulis, Peter (Jaimie) Georgis and their daughter Brie; niece, Sophia (the late Jeff) Siebert and their son Evan Siebert, Sophia (the late Victor) De Toro, Voula (Alex) Degenhardt, Anastasia (Matt) O’Hara, Dena (Perry) Thomas, and Sophia (Jeff) Hamra; godchild Vicki Thiakos; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Spyridon Thiakos, and cherished son Peter, both having died in the Spring of 2013; sisters, Argie Revezoulis, and Bessie Zafirakis; and brother Theodore Georgis
Funeral services for Angela Thiakos will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024, at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway St., Joliet, where she will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until services begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
