Obituary of Joyce A. Stejskal
Joyce A. Stejskal (nee Speckman)
Joyce A. Stejskal, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home, on Monday, December 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born March 18, 1942, in Joliet, IL, the daughter of the late Daniel H. and Viola (nee Watts) Speckman. She was a graduate of Joliet Township High School and remained very active in planning their class reunions and the JT archival committee. Joyce went on to earn her A.A. degree from Joliet Junior College before securing full-time employment at Argonne National Laboratory as a typist. This is where she met her loving husband Bruce while attending a work party.
Her typist skills took her far; she was one of the fastest around. So, when Joyce retired from Argonne National Laboratory, she continued her Secretarial work in Joliet at Trailways Girl Scout Counsel and then for Plainfield School District 202 as a secretary in both Student Services and the Administration Office.
Joyce was a member of the New Lenox Sportsmen’s Club, where she enjoyed many summers camping and spending time at the beach, playing trivia and cards with her family and many dear friends. Joyce had a quilting group as she was passionate about quilting and anything crafty. She loved the holidays, collecting Dept. 56 decorations and Hummel Co-boy figurines. She was also a Pepsi fanatic. Joyce lived life to the fullest and she loved to travel. When her daughters were younger, they took several trips to historical places and caravaned to Disney World with their best friends. Joyce had many strong friendships that she maintained since her younger years.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Bruce; her daughters, Jennifer Stejskal, and Julie (Eric Benuska) Stejskal; grandsons, Chase Stejskal and Gage Stejskal; and niece, Heidi (Jerry) Outlaw.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Judith Groff; brother, Daniel T. Speckman; and sister-in-law, Deva Speckman.
Visitation for Joyce A. Stejskal will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL from 11:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. As it was her request, cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Lightways Hospice.
