Obituary of Kathy Lozar
Kathy Lozar
(nee Peceniak)
Kathy Lozar, our loving daughter, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend, left us peacefully and surrounded by family, on December 25, 2024 at the age of 76, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, after a courageous battle with pancreatitis. Kathy’s joyful spirit, fun-loving personality, commitment to her family, zest for life, and loyalty to her friends will be remembered and celebrated on Christmas Day through the traditions, memories, and legacy she gave to all of us.
Kathy was born on May 14, 1948, to Joseph and Marie (nee Bowler) Peceniak in Joliet. She attended St. Francis High School and graduated from Northern Illinois University where she met and eventually married Thomas Lozar. Together, they raised two children, Kailyn Marriott (nee Lozar) and Keith (Rebecca) Lozar in a beautiful home that was always full of friends and family. Kathy had a gift for planting fabulous gardens, making extraordinary crafts, cooking exquisite food, hosting delightful parties, giving abundant service at Catholic Charities, and engaging in her community as a member of Holly Club, Joliet Junior Women’s Club, and Joliet Country Club. Most recently, Kathy moved to Shorewood Glen where she was living her best life.
Kathy’s most cherished role was being a wonderful mother to Kai and Keith and a loving grandmother to Kaili and Kelsi Marriott and Jonah and Maxwell Lozar. Throughout her life, you could find Kathy beaming with pride in the stands at swim meets, next to the dugout at the ballpark, on the sidelines at volleyball games, and near the front row at dance recitals. In every possible way, Kathy showed up for those she loved. According to her grandkids, she was “the best nana in the world!”. Through her adventurous and passionate spirit, she taught her children to always find joy in life, even when times were hard.
Kathy is the beloved daughter of Marie Peceniak; dearest sister of Susan Meyer and Jim Peceniak (Marie). Also surviving are her nieces, Heather Goeppinger (Chris), Courtney Dziurawiec (Tony); and nephews, Joel Meyer (Brooke), Nick (Heather) and Jake Peceniak and Cameron McDonald (Sarah); as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and great-nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Paul Lozar; her father, Joseph Peceniak; her sister, Janet McDonald; and many other friends and relatives.
