Jyme Sue Johnson, age 80, of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Lightways Hospice Home, surrounded by the love of her family. Jyme was born in Joliet, on August 20, 1944, the daughter of the late James and Bettie (nee Fuson). Born and raised in Joliet, she was a graduate of Joliet Central High School. She furthered her education at Joliet Junior College, University of St. Francis, and Northern Illinois University, where she earned her master’s degree in education. Jyme retired after a long-dedicated career as a high school teacher at Joliet Township High School-District 204, where she impacted the lives of many students that had the privilege of being in her classroom.
Jyme was a woman of faith and was a longtime parishioner of Queen of Apostles. She was active in many Joliet-area organizations, including St. Joseph's Hospital Volunteer and Auxiliary, Joliet Area Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and a talented crafter. She also enjoyed dancing, cooking, crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Jyme is survived by her partner of 20 years, Tom Piskur; her daughter, Cindy (Truman) Price; grandson, Ryne (Madison) Jacobson; granddaughter, Brooke Jacobson; sister, Judy Goebel; niece, Judi (Rob) Galick; nephews, Jim (Jennifer) Goebel and Jeff (Jodie) Goebel; special friend, Carolyn Embody; and her canine companion, Pearl.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thaddeus Johnson- who passed away in May of 1996; and her parents.
A Memorial Gathering is being planned for the summer, her favorite season of the year. As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded.
