Obituary of Phyllis Banas

Phyllis L. Banas (nee Rehg) Age 63. Passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, surrounded by her family. Born June 24, 1945 in Columbia, IL to Elmer and Lois (nee Bayless) Rehg, she was a resident of Joliet/Plainfield for over 40 years. A graduate of Columbia High School, Southern Illinois University where she received her Bachelors and Masters degrees, and the University of Miami in Tampa where she received her Masters degree. Phyllis taught school for 34 years; in special education at Robert C. Hile School in Romeoville, and fourth grade for 25 years at Oak View School in Bolingbrook. She was a professional pianist for over 50 years, and played keyboards and rhythm in the group, We're Family, for over 25 years. She was co-owner of the Men of Brass Drum and Bugle Corps of Will County. Co-owner of Poor Boy and Sweets Fast Food and Ice Cream Store located in Lockport. She was the Co-Director of the Mighty Oaks "Americas Finest" Grade School Chorus in the late 1970's and early 1980's. She was also the Co-Owner and Co-Director of the Stars and Stripes, a nationally famous children's touring chorus in the late 1990's and early 2000, located out of Bolingbrook. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan, and she loved the Chicago Black Hawks. Survived by her husband, Joe Banas of Plainfield; stepson, Michael (Natalie) Banas; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Phil) Resendiz; grandchildren, Kaedyn, Rhyan and Greyson "Little Joe" Banas; and Janaye, Madesyn and Avery Resendiz. Funeral services for Phyllis Banas will be Monday, November 3, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Plainfield for Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
