Obituary of Leonard Karlin

Leonard Karlin Age 95, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Left to cherish his memory are four loving children, David, Rachel, Judy (Michael) Block and Benjamin (Melanie) Karlin; also five beloved grandchildren, Tracie and Jared Karlin; Joseph, Deborah, and Elizabeth Block; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret; and his devoted son, Abraham. A World War II veteran of the Coast Guard, he married Margaret while she was a WAC. They lived together in Forest Park until Margaret passed in 2000. Leonard was an esteemed defense attorney in Cook County, and a superb story teller with an unsurpassed sense of humor. He was a lifelong advocate for mental health issues and civil rights, giving generously of his time and talents. Funeral Services for Leonard Karlin will be Monday, October 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Joliet Jewish Congregation, 250 N. Midland Avenue, Joliet. Graveside service Monday 1:00 p.m. at Waldheim Jewish Cemetery (Gate 47C), Forest Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cornerstone Services would be appreciated.
