Obituary of Sister OSF

Sister M. Karen Kauderer, OSF Sister M. Karen Kauderer, OSF (1915 - 2010) died peacefully at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center on March 7, 2010. Born in Columbus, Ohio, she was the eldest of nine children born to August and Elizabeth (Schneider) Kauderer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Alban, Leo and Robert and her sisters Rita Exenkemper, Elizabeth Sahr, Alice Kauderer, and Rosemary Bowen. She is survived by her sister, Mary Mercedes Greene of Opelika, AK. Sister Karen was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 66 years. Before entering religious life, Sister Karen was a member of St. Leo Parish in Columbus, OH. She attended Sacred Heart Business School in Columbus and St. Francis Academy (Joliet Catholic Academy), Joliet, IL. Sister Karen earned a BA degree from the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis). Sister Karen was an accomplished seamstress before entering the Joliet Franciscans. She taught Sewing and Homemaking at St. Francis Academy from 1948 until 1969 and at St. Francis de Sales High School from 1969 until 1995. The wake for Sister Karen will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Friday, March 12, 2010, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Saturday morning, March 13, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
