Ernest Eugene Keeler
Ernest Eugene ("Gene") Keeler, late of Aurora, Illinois and formerly of Shelbyville, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the age of 83. Gene resided in Shelbyville with his wife Judith Ann Keeler, formerly Evans, from 1981 until 2000 when they moved to Plainfield.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Mound Cemetery in Cowden, Illinois at 1:00 p.m. At his request, Gene's ashes will be interred beside the resting place of his wife Judith Ann.
Gene was a World War II veteran and served as a United States Navy Corpsmen at the Naval Hospital in San Diego California. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he pursued his education and earned several degrees. He worked a variety of jobs throughout his professional career. Gene also earned his pilots wings, was an amateur radio operator, an avid wood worker and carpenter, loved Jazz, and enjoyed reading. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Joliet, Illinois.
Gene is survived by his son Michael, daughter-in-law Becky, and step-son Jerry McInnis.
