Obituary of Eugenia Bank
Eugenia M. Bank
(nee Austin)
"Genie" "Maude"
Age 92, of the Timbers of Shorewood, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012.
She was born August 9, 1919 to the late Lena (nee Warren) and William Austin in Joliet, where she was raised, attending St. Patrick Grade School, St. Francis Academy, and the College of St. Francis, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Art.
Genie married Louis Bank on November 22, 1941 and they resided in Aurora for 20 years until relocating to Joliet, where they have been area residents until the present.
After raising her family, Mrs. Bank taught Art through District 86, primarily at Gompers Junior High. Post retirement, she became a volunteer Art teacher at the Will County Jail.
Eugenia was the beloved wife of 70 years to Louis; loving mother of the late Margaret (Dave) Katt, Linda (Dave) Bates, Carol (Tim) Smith, Bill (Mary Jane) Bank, Chris (Paula) Bank, Warren (Amy) Bank, the late Leo Bank, Mary (Bob) Barney, Mike (Lauri) Bank and Bernie (Mark) Sienko; proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; dearest sister-in-law of Gerry Austin, Betty Dixon and Julia Theis; and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
She was a faithful associate of the Third Order of the Sisters of St. Francis, where she was affectionately known as one of the three "Maudes". Genie was also her High School Class President (Class of 1936), as well as a former president of Joliet Catholic High Band Parents. She set a precedent years ago at her Parish, the Cathedral of St. Raymond, by suggesting rolls and coffee following mass, and that fellowship continues today. She will fondly be remembered as a very personable, loving woman, who enjoyed sharing her love of art with her family, friends and community.
