I was just a little girl when I first met Uncle Bobby, and I can't really say that I remember it all that well. All I really remember is meeting this super happy, big guy! He was a comfort from the second I saw him. I grew up knowing that he was not my uncle by blood, but that it never mattered to him. He was my uncle in every way that mattered. He always had a smile on his face - ALWAYS!! I do not have a single memory of uncle Bobby being in a bad mood. As I grew up and had my own family, even though we didn't see each other as often, my kids always knew who uncle Bobby was and always heard me tell stories about him. He was such a comfort to have in my life. He always greeted me with a huge hug and a bright smile. I think the thing I loved the most about him was how much you could see his love for his wife and children. He lit up whenever they were around and whenever he talked about them. He was a wonderful man, and the world was definitely a better place while he was here. I will always love you , Uncle Bobby.

it was 1982 January 25, My daughter heather and I flew into chicago for the very first time. Bob picked us up, it was snowing and he was a bright star waiting for us to arrive it was snowing so bad like I had never seen. His smile captured me first then when the ride was over I was in love for life with this guy I had just met. A stranger I was and so was heather but you kjnow what it did not matter he took us into his fold without a thought and we have been here ever since growing and loving each other as famiy from the get go. His laugh just cracked me up and he drove from ohare airport like a nut according to me, i had never been on an expressway before and it was snowing like crazy and no matter how hard I tried to put on my passenger brakes we were still cruizing. When we finally reached our destination that night I was never so happy to get out of a car in my life. I fell in love with bob and all his friends from day one and without the presence of this wonderful man who knows what kind of life I would of had here being a stranger and all but through God and Al I met the best friend we will ever have as far as brotherly love goes he was love in the flesh. we will miss our brother in Christ for as long as we are alive. We pray for all of the gewalt family and extended family cos Lord knows there is a ton of us , who will miss his light but will never let it dim in our hearts . God bless all of you .

Bobby you will truly missed by all your family and friends. I will never forget the time you called me to help me out when I was stuck in traffic in Harvey. You stayed on that phone with me until you knew I was ok and felt safe again. I always enjoy hearing my Dad talk about some of the memories you two have shared and I look forward to hearing more. Rest peacefully Bobby.

Today I received an E-Mail from Tif which I will quote:
"Dad, I came across this poem, it made me think of you. I wish I could take away all your pain. I can't imagine how you feel. This is so unfair. I'm so sorry dad. This is unfair. My heart hurts for you and the Gewalt family and also that the world has lost such a wonderful man. We all have so much emptiness in our hearts that will never go away. Questions that may never be answered. Anger that may never go away. I wish I could fix this for everyone. It's not the years in your life, it's about the life in your years."
The poem reads
"You showed me a lot of things.
I learned a lot I didn't know,
But you forgot to teach me one last thing,
How to let you go,
I know you din't mean to leave me,
Sometimes we have no choice,
I miss being you brother,
Hearing my name called by your voice,
I wish I got to say I love you,
Before you were given to the sky,
If God could grant me one last wish,
I'd ask to say GOODBYE,
You always meant a lot to me,
I could never love you less,
I know it's true when they say,
HE only takes the best "
