Obituary of Robert Gewalt

Robert Karl Gewalt Age 52, of Shorewood since 2002, and formerly of Aurora, passed away suddenly Thursday, January 31, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Shorewood. Born November 6, 1960 in Chicago, to the late Arthur Franz and Loretta Ann (nee Wolf) Gewalt, he grew up in South Holland and attended Thornwood High School. He worked for American Airlines in Fleet Service for over 33 years. Bob was an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and enjoyed his fellowship with his Harley friends. Bob was a jack of all trades and could fix or do anything. He loved good conversation, but was also a good listener. He loved his family and friends very much and was a good teacher to his children. Survived by his beloved wife, Brenda C. (nee Mortimer) Gewalt; four children, Nicole Renee Farrell of Joliet, Tonya Ann Knight of Mundelein, Travis Karl Gewalt of Shorewood and Samantha Joy Gewalt of Shorewood; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one sister, Carole Ann (late Robert) Thompson of Lansing, IL; one brother, Arthur (Ilsa) Gewalt of North Judson, IN; niece, Susan Papai; nephew, Robert Papai; his wife's parents, William Guy Mortimer and Janet (Tom) Wilson; and his wife's siblings, Diana (Robert) Bray, Victoria Kooinga and William G. Mortimer, Jr. and their children. Funeral Services for Robert Karl Gewalt will be Monday, February 4, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Comer Children's Hospital Cancer Research at the University of Chicago would be appreciated.
