Fr. Eric was my spiritual counselor at Our Lady of Angels Seminary in Quincy, Illinois, in the late sixties. He introduced me to New Melleray Trappist Abbey by taking me and a handful of others there for a retreat over Thanksgiving 1968. Years later I entered there as a novice, as he himself had a few years earlier (I had visited him there). He had not stayed and came to visit me when I was a novice there. (I didn't stay either). I have never forgotten his care for me and his gentle spirit. I am sure he has now found what he was looking for.
