Obituary of Floyd Smith
Floyd B. Smith
Age 90, of Morris, passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with his family at his side.
He was born March 20, 1924 on the family farm in rural Channahon Township, to Howard and Alzina (nee Green) Smith. Following his mothers death, he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Ralph and Velda Dixon in the Elwood/Wilmington area. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School. He owned and operated Native Lumber Company, in Minooka, which many remember simply as Smith's Saw Mill. He also farmed for many years.
Floyd loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques, especially bicycles, and also playing euchre.
Surviving are his two daughters, Jayne (David) Udstuen and Joan (fiancee Allen Morris) Enger, both of Morris; five step-daughters, Toni (late Scott) Macdonald, Bobbi Clear, Cindi (Jim) Adler, Chris (Keith) Kopelman and Michele Santerelli; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Harold E. Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded by his first wife, Shirley (nee Olson) Smith; his second wife, Jeaninne (nee Roth) Smith; his parents; a daughter, Carla Farr; a granddaughter, Jennifer Grossman; and a step-daughter, Sandra Lamping.
Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of his urn at Willard Grove Cemetery, Channahon, will take place at a later date. Memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Easter Seals Joliet Region would be appreciated. Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, Morris, is assisting the family with arrangements.
