Obituary of John Long

John Douglas Long Age 50. At rest Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born and raised in Decatur, IL and residing in Joliet since 1996. Attended Loyola University and a graduate of Eisenhower High School, Decatur. A Senior Consulting Director for Oracle Corp. for the past 17 years. John was an avid Chicago White Sox fan and enjoyed coaching Crest Hill Pony Baseball. In his spare time, he enjoyed cruising, as well as music and following local bands. Survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Sharon A. (nee Zaring) Long of Joliet; four children, John Steven, Kevin P., Michael J. and Cassidy E. Long, all of Joliet; his mother, Shirley (nee Giberson) Long of Decatur; his sister, Susan (John) Thomas of Romeoville; half sisters, Sharon (Jack) Hedenberg and Karen Long, both of Decatur; several nieces and nephews including Ben and Abbey Thomas; and Sheltie companions, Champ and Emma. Preceded by his father, John B. Long (1979). Funeral Services for John Douglas Long will be Monday, March 30, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Chicago White Sox Charities (www.chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/charities) would be appreciated. Visitation Monday, 3:00 p.m. until time of service.
