Obituary of Anna Gay

Anna Rosella Gay Anna Rosella (nee Long) Gay, a long time Channahon resident who was celebrating her 100th year, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, October 4, 2015. She was born December 22, 1915, the daughter of the late William and Julia (nee Hulbert) Long in Channahon where she was raised. In 1949, Anna and her family moved to Joliet, and she began a long career at Silver Cross Hospital, retiring in 1980. Survived by her daughter, Harriet (late Ed) Wicburg of Oceanside, CA; two sons, William G. Gay and Robert A. (Colleen) Gray, both of Channahon, IL; grandchildren, Edward (Tamera) Wicburg, David (Charlie) Wicburg, Teri (Bob) Hume; Judy Ann (Omar) Bahaeddin, Tammy (Richard) Bartel, Robert A. (Janelle) Gray, Jr. and Georgette Salazar; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive. Preceded in death by her husband, William (1972); daughter, Judith Parks (2014); and grandchildren, James Bonner (1959), William De Lucio (2008) and Lori Wicburg (2009). Anna loved her family very much. She loved traveling, Bingo, reading the Enquirer and playing the slot machines. A member of Channahon Women's Relief Corp. and Channahon United Methodist Church. The family of Anna Gay will always remember the kindness and care that Rev. McGuire and the nurses of Joliet Area Community Hospice provided her throughout her latter stages. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Interment to follow in Willard Grove Cemetery, Channahon. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
