Obituary of Catherine Griparis

Catherine P. Griparis (Nee Pappas) "Cay" Age 89. Suddenly, Friday January 29, 2016 at home where Cay proceeded to sit down in a chair, closed her eyes, then woke up in the presence of the Lord. Born December 19, 1926 in Joliet, IL and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A graduate of Joliet Junior College with an Associates Degree in Biology. A graduate of Joliet Township High School, Class of 1944. Retired from General Electric in Morris, IL after many years of service as a chemical safety technician. Following her retirement, she took a position with family at the White Hen Pantry on Essington Rd. and Caton Farm Rd. location. A member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, where she was active in the church choir, the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos Society. She was a loving, witty, caring woman whose center of her universe was her family, starting with her seven granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, her children and their spouses, extended family and her very special friends. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy regularly. Preceded in death by her infant daughter, Antoinette Griparis; her parents, Nicholas and Athena (nee Adamopolis) Pappas; one brother, Thomas (Mary) Pappas; two sisters, Helen (Nicholas) Douglas and Mary (Edward) Patrick. Survived by her loving son, George (Deborah) Griparis of Florida; her loving daughter, Nancy (Al) Roechner of Joliet; seven granddaughters, Elaine (Phil) Gloeckner, Nicole (Ricky Rolon) Griparis, Alex Griparis, Tessa Griparis; Catherine (Vic) Carusi, Hallie Roechner and Zoe Roechner; four great-grandchildren, Geovana, Elliette, Maxwell Gloeckner; and Nico Carusi; two Godchildren, Thomas Stephens and Lainie Jenkins. Numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends also survive. Funeral services for Catherine P. Griparis will be Tuesday February 2, 2016 at 11:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway Street, Joliet, for services at 12 Noon. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund in her name, would be appreciated. Visitation Monday from 3 - 8 p.m. with Trisagion services at 6:30 p.m.
