Obituary of Carol Sytko

Carol Jean Sytko (nee Draus) Age 76, of Joliet, IL, passed away Sunday March 6, 2016 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center after a long, courageous battle against cancer. Born March 13, 1939 to the late Louise (nee Wolf) and Steven Draus in Chicago, IL where she was raised in the Lawndale neighborhood, a graduate with the class of 1957 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School. Beloved wife of 54 years to William E. "Bill" Sytko; loving mother of Laurie (Andrew) Haverkate and Vicki (Christopher) Ehrsam; proud and devoted grandmother of Stephanie Haverkate, Sydney Ehrsam, Erik Haverkate and Sophie Ehrsam. Also surviving are her siblings, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be missed by her canine companion, Nicholas. Carol, in her earlier years, was an administrative assistant for Prudential Insurance Co. She was employed at Plainfield Molding and the Diocese of Joliet after her daughters were raised. She was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Mary Immaculate Church and School some years ago, however more recently had been attending and joined St. Francis Xavier parish. A quick study when it came to computers (among other endeavors), a classic domestic engineer and a devout catholic, supporting many catholic agencies, Carol will fondly be remembered as a very kind and giving soul who just adored her grandchildren. Funeral Services for Carol Jean Sytko will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church 2500 Arbeiter Rd. Joliet, IL where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Risen Lord Cemetery Oswego, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
